Archie’s Homework

Assignments

  • Keyboard Notes A-G Lesson high score: 14/14 (WOW!)
  • Send me scores he’s proud of this week! 🙌📲
  • Work on assignments written in his Practice Journal and log the days. We are at 93 days!! 🥳🎵
  • My hands are very sideways in this video and are *NOT* good hand position. See if he can tell you why! 🧐
What’s wrong with my hands?
  • Please feel free to text me with *any* questions about his assignments, I’m happy to provide any additional guidance, including audio or video recordings.
  • Have fun! 🙂

Progress

  • His music vocabulary is super impressive! He’s doing an amazing job with rhythm and understanding the value of each kind of note. We are working on keeping a steady beat throughout each piece. Try having him increase the tempo as he gets more confident with each song to make repeating them more fun!
  • Sometimes we are a little hesitant about which is our RH and which is LH, but I have adult students who still struggle with that so I’m not too worried about it 😉 Today we tried thinking about the stem down for the low side of the keyboard, and stem up for the high side.
  • We are also working on getting our hands into the starting position for each piece, aiming for not needing any help. This is one of the hardest things for every student.
  • His hand shape is looking great as long as he’s thinking about it 🤩 Sometimes we forget and play with flat fingers when we’re concentrating on the notes.
Locating position with great technique!
Awesome technique!

Recital

  • I am recording the last two recital pieces this week, and should be able to get everyone the Holiday Recital video by Monday. I’m so sorry for the delay! 😣 COVID really threw a wrench in preparedness and ability to meet in person for a few of my students.
  • I haven’t picked a date for our spring recital (probably April/May), but the theme will be the “Night at the Movies” we were working on pre-pandemic. I’m aiming to do another “virtual” performance for this recital as well 🎞🎶
  • I’d love to start thinking about potential piece(s) that he is interested in doing! Winnie the Pooh would still be a great option if he likes it, or we can do something else. Hopefully a piece on the list grabs attention, but I am happy to make an arrangement of another piece if he’d like to do something different.
  • As we get further down the road, please let me know if there are questions I can answer, or anything I can do to help make Archie’s recital piece a success!
